Disgracer 1 (After Goltzius) Phaethon: Saudi Women Drive
Oil on canvas
40" x 30"
2014

When Phaethon's father, Apollo, granted him any wish, the boy asked to drive his father's chariot that carried the sun across the sky each day. Phaethon couldn't control the horses and the earth was in danger of burning up, so Zeus struck him with a thunderbolt and he fell to his death. In my version, it's Saudi women who want to drive; not disgraced, but actively seeking to be disgracers.
